This paper aims to scrutinize the pertinence of the Upper Ontology, focusing on the SUMO and examine the possibility of its application to the other ontologies. In this respect, we will manually map all of the synsets (synonym sets) with semantic depth 3 and some with 7 in KorLexNoun 1.5 to <semantic class> extracted from 「Sejong Project's Electronic Dictionary」. The Upper Ontology means a merging ontological content into a single and comprehensive structure and can be used to automated reasoning, information retrieval and interoperability in NLP tasks. Another merit of the Upper Ontology is to be effectively used for the likage and integration between multilingual lexical semantic networks. The synsets (with semantic depth 3 and 7) in KorLexNoun which has been developed by a referenced method to Princeton WordNet are mapped to the <semantic class>, and their mapping rate attains 69.12% and 60.55% respectively. The mappings between KorLexNoun and <semantic class> are expected to be served as a selectional restriction for the declinable words (verbs, adjectives) in lexical semantic network.
