Models of lexical access disagree on whether homonyms have a shared word-form representation or not. In order to investigate this controversy, an auditory lexical decision task was conducted in the present work. Experimental stimuli were Korean homonyms, which had never been the subject of a systematic investigation. Korean single syllable words recorded by a native speaker of Korean were presented to 31 native speakers. Response time (RT) was obtained in the task. Mean response time for homonyms turned out not to be significantly different from that for non-homonyms, which supports Independent Network Model rather than Shared Network Model. Furthermore, lexical access time revealed to be a function of token frequency of each stimulus regardless of its membership of homonyms.
