This study aims to investigate writing strategies used by Korean university students, and to explore how students of different English proficiency use different writing strategies. The results indicated that participants tend to use revising strategies more commonly than while-writing and planning strategies. They also revealed that their English proficiency significantly affects the use of writing strategies. More proficient students showed more frequent use of strategies like planning for the writing process, thinking about what they want to write, writing directly in English, rereading their writing for developing ideas, and revising vocabularies and sentence structures. Less proficient students, however, liked to write in Korean and translate it into English, and liked to ask somebody for help under difficulties while writing.
