The purpose of this study was to explore the level of problem behavior exhibited by Korean-Japanese multicultural adolescents, and the causal relationships between the problem behavior and the factors related to through a path model. The data gleaned from replies of 309 Korean-Japanese multicultural adolescents were subjected to an analysis. The results indicate that the level of problem behavior was normal, the score of depression/anxiety was highest, while the score of the aggression subscale was lowest. The level of problem behavior was negatively related to Korean ability and self-esteem, and positively related to the amount of discrimination experience. According to the path model, the positive influence of the perception of a difference in appearance on problem behavior occurred indirectly through ethnic identity and self-esteem. Whereas the negative influence of Korean ability on problem behavior occurred indirectly through ethnic identity. Discrimination experience had an indirect effect on the problem behavior level of multicultural adolescents through ethnic identity and self-esteem, it also showed a positive influence on problem behavior directly. The limitations of this study and the need for follow up studies are also discussed.
