본 연구는 탈북 남성의 아내 폭력 실태를 파악하고, 폭력 허용도가 이들의 아내 폭력 가해에 미치는 영향과 남한사회적응의 조절효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 여성가족부가 실시한 「2010 전국 가정폭력 실태조사」의 “북한이탈주민 가정폭력 조사”자료를 사용하였으며, 조사는 2010년 8월부터 10월까지 진행되었다. 최종분석에는 19세 이상 기혼 북한이탈주민 304명 중 여성을 제외한 101명의 자료가 사용되었다. 연구결과 최근 일 년 간 아내에게 신체적 폭력을 행사한 경험이 있는 탈북 남성은 57.1%(56명)으로 남한 남성의 9.9%(85명)에 비해 5배 이상 높게 나타나 이들의 가정폭력이 매우 심각한 수준에 있는 것으로 조사되었다.또한 가정폭력의 주요 영향요인으로 주목 받았던 폭력 허용도 역시 탈북 남성이 남한 남성에 비해 높은 것으로 나타났다. 한편 폭력 허용도가 가정폭력에 미치는 영향과 남한사회적응의 조절효과를 확인하기 위해 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 탈북 남성의 폭력 허용도가 높을수록 가정폭력 가해를 더 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 남한사회적응의 경우, 남한사회적응 수준이 직접적으로 가정폭력 가해에 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 나타났으나, 폭력 허용도가 가정폭력 가해에 미치는 영향을 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 폭력 허용도는 탈북 남성의 가정폭력 가해를 증가시키지만, 남한사회에 대한 적응 수준이 높을수록 폭력 허용도가 가정폭력 가해에 미치는 영향력이 완화될 수 있다는 것이다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 탈북 남성의 가정폭력을 예방하기 위한 개입 방안을 제언하였다.
This study aimed to investigate the status of spousal abuse among North Korean defectors, in order to examine the effects of attitudes toward violence on the frequency of spousal abuse, and to determine if there are any moderating effects of acculturation. A total of 101 husbands participated in this study developed by The 2010 Domestic Violence Survey of South Korea, a survey of domestic violence among North Korean defectors. The findings of the study were as follows: First, North Korean defectors were found to abuse their spouses five times as often as native South Koreans (57.1%), while only 9.9% of native South Koreans abused their spouses. Second, North Korean defectors’ attitudes toward violence was found to have an impact on the prevalence of spousal abuse and a moderating acculturation effect was also revealed. While the level of acculturation did not have a major effect, it moderated the relationship between attitudes toward violence and spousal abuse. The effects of attitudes toward violence on their likelihood of abusing their spouses decrease when North Korean defectors have a high acculturation level. Based on these results, the study suggested practical intervention programs for preventing spousal abuse and supporting North Korean defectors.
