본 연구는 유럽연합의 확대개편에 따른 여러 가지 현안문제와 한계를 분석해 보았다. 현재 유럽연합의 확대개편은 각 회원국의 이해관계에 따라 다양한 정책방향으로 논의되고 있다. 일부 회원국은 유럽연합의 확대에 대한 국가적 이해관계를 고려하여 부정적인 생각을 하고 있으나, 유럽연합의 불확실성과 공동목표를 위하여 동구유럽으로 확대개편하는데 것을 바람직하다고 본다. 그럼에도 불구하고 유럽연합의 확대개편은 회원국 사이에 여러 가지 현안문제와 사회적 갈등을 초래하고 있다. 이와 같이 거대 유럽연합의 출범은 정치적경제적인 측면에서 세계질서를 유지하는데 많은 영향력을 행사할 수 있으나, 회원국간에 정치적경제적사회적 갈등과 불신이 증폭되어 상당한 어려움에 직면할 수 있다. 따라서 지역과제로 논의된 지역의 균형발전, 시민통합정책, 개방화를 통한 정보교류 및 신뢰성 확보가 유럽연합의 확대에 중요한 현안으로 간주된다.
This study analyzes the various major pending issues and limits, accompanying with the current European Union Expansion. It could be discussed from diverse viewpoints, since each member country's own interests. Considering these different interest relations of each member country a part of EU member countries have a negative view on the European Union Expansion. However, the ultimate objective of the European Union Expansion is to expand it to even the Eastern European area in order to avoid the uncertainty and pursue common objectives. Consequently the magnifying reorganization of the European Union has brought about diverse pending issues and conflicts between member countries. In this way, the birth of a mammoth EU could have a great influence in maintaining the world order. However, if political, economic and social conflicts and distrusts magnifies between member nations, then the EU could possibly face a difficult situation. Therefore, those regional problems that have been discussed as area subjects, such as the balanced development, a citizen integration policy, information exchange and reliability security through openness policy, could be regarded as the most important pending issues in the expansion of European Union.
