Comparative regionalism has recently become a fancy area of study in international relations. This research presents an analysis of European experiences and possibilities of Asian regionalism. Europe launched an ambitious project, named European Community building in 1957 to prevent further conflicts on the continent and to restore economic prosperity. After over 50 years of integration history, European Union is considered as a best example of any regionalism, in particular way with limited sovereignty pooling and many scholars are eager to compare its applicability to other regions in the world. East Asia entails a delicate issue of identity, therefore definition of region in itself. Nevertheless ASEAN + 3 has been partly successful in that it made possible the creation of multilateral Chiang Mai Initiative to the financial crisis in the region. In terms of security and other related matters, it is preferable to take a form of open regionalism, inviting USA and others who have strategic interests over East Asia. But as to the economic cooperation, deepening-first-then-the-enlargement approach is desirable to yield coherent, durable, efficient and constructive cooperation. To attain these dualistic goals, institutionalization processes are urgently needed in the years to come.
