Although there are some reports of malignant fibrous histiocytoma arising from the head and neck region, there hasnt been any reports on cases originating from the tongue base. We experienced a case of 29-year old female patient who visited our hospital with complaints of dyspnea, swallowing difficulty and a tongue based mass. On physical examination, she showed a huge tongue base mass filling the hypopharynx. After a temporary tracheostomy, she underwent a mass excision via transhyoid pharyngotomy approach. Postoperatively, she received radiation therapy for adjuvant treatment. She has been followed up without any evidence of the disease for 20 months.
