본 연구는 Froebel이 인간교육을 위해 유치원 교육과정에 적용하였던 수학적 활동에 대한 이론적 근거를 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 연속체적 발달을 통해 인간발달의 목표인 통일을 원했던 Froebel은 수학교육을 통해 통일에 도달할 수 있다고 보았다. 따라서 Froebel의 수학교육은 단지 유치원 수준의 활동뿐만 아니라 그 속에는 인간의 연속적 발달을 위한 단계적 활동들이 포함되어 있다. Froebel 이론에서는 수학교육을 인간교육의 발달적 과정과 같은 맥락으로 연관성을 제시하고 있다. 따라서 수학교육을 통해 인간교육의 목표인 통일에 도달할 수 있다는 Froebel의 수학교육은 현대적 관점에서도 유아수학교육의 이론적 근거와 더불어 실제적 활동의 근거를 제시하고 있기 때문에 재조명 될 필요가 있다.


The aim of this study is to describe and to analyze of Froebelian mathematical concepts which were expressed in the education of man. Froebel wanted to teach mathematics to young childrenan by using concrete materials and activities. This study are on focus as follows; to review the Froebelian mathematics educational principles for young children and to find out the historical meaning of Froebel's mathematical education program. Froebel devised the gifts(Spielgabe), the occupations, and activities for young children's mathematics. Included among his works are mathematical concepts of the same kind unity, whole and parts, thing-points, lines, planes, and solid geometries. Froebel tried to teach such arithemetic and geometric attributes as symmetry, transformations, and combinations. Froebel's mathematics educational theories and practices had an influence on young children mathematics education. So, Froebel's mathematical concept in his works has been reexamined for young children curriculum. Froebel's mathematical indications make a discovery in child study movement, Montessori program, Piaget tasks, Peak and Nuffield mathmatics. The results of this study shows that Froebel's mathematics activities could be modified and applied the settlement for young children curriculum.
