본 연구는 공립유치원 소인수 학급의 교사를 통하여 그들이 느끼는 소인수 학급의교사로서의 삶을 알아보고 소인수 학급의 가치를 찾아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본연구는 소인수 학급을 담당하는 다섯 명의 교사를 2-3회에 걸쳐 심층면담을 하며 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과, 먼저, 교사는 유아와 교사 간에 일반적인 관계가 아닌 친밀감을 가지며 유아뿐만 아니라 부모, 조부모와도 친밀한 관계를 형성하고행복한 삶을 살고 있었다. 또한 교사는 기존의 수업방식을 과감하게 소인수 학급에적합한 교수-학습 방법을 모색하며 유아들과 함께 만들어 가면서 그 안에서 특별한삶을 살고 있었다. 다음으로 교사는 학급을 운영하면서 유아 수가 적기 때문에 할 수있는 교육방법을 적용하고 그에 따른 유아의 성장하는 모습과 여러 측면에서 유아의발달을 경험하면서 뿌듯함을 느끼고 있었다. 마지막으로 교사는 단일학급으로 다양한업무를 진행하기도 하고 주변 사람들의 소인수 학급에 대한 편견으로 인해 어려움을겪으며 안타까움을 가지고 있었다. 이상과 같은 연구의 결과는 소인수 학급 교사가열과 성을 다하고 있는 교사의 삶을 통해 소인수 학급의 가치를 이해하는데 긍정적인영향을 줄 것으로 사료된다.
This research aim to know about teacher’s life in a small size class of a public kindergarten and to search for the value of a small size class. This research collected and analyzed data by having interviews with five teachers of a small class 2~3 times. In the result of the research, initially, the teachers have intimate feeling toward children but not general relations, and have good relationship not only with children but also with parents and grandparents and are living happily. And the teachers have been trying to find and make appropriate instructional methods for a small size class against the existing teaching method, and leading a special life. Subsequently, as managing the class, the teachers could apply the instructional method with small number of children and experience children’s growth and advancement in many aspects, so, they felt great. Lastly, the teachers managed various work for a single class, and felt difficult and sorry, because of people’s prejudice toward a small size class. The results of the research above seemed to positively affect the understanding of the value of small size classes through the teacher’s life who do their best for the small size classes.
