본 서평은 최근에 발간된 <박태준 사상, 미래를 열다>(송복․최진덕․전상진․ 김왕배․백기복, 2012)의 내용을 검토하여 한국형리더십의 전형을 발견하려는 시도이다. 우선 송복 교수는 박태준의 생애를 한국인들의 ‘선비사상’을 보여준 전형으로 해석하고 의지의 ‘지(志)’, 옳음의 ‘의(義)’, 청렴의 ‘렴(廉)’, 자애의 ‘애(愛)’를 구체적 행동지침으로 제시한다. 과거의 많은 선비들이 이러한 사상을 부르짖기는 했지만, 행동으로 실천한 사람은 박태준이라는 점을 강조한다. 최진덕 교수는 “결사적인 조국애” 를 박태준사상의 핵심으로 제시한다. 이는 군인, 기업인, 정치인 박태준이 사심을 버리고 주어진 역할에 헌신하도록 했던 가장 강력한 동인이라는 주장을 편다. 전상인교수는 영웅을 사회적 자산이라고 규정하고 박태준을 행동하고 실천하는 진정한 “영웅”이었다고 평가한다. 한 사회의 영웅숭배는, 민중론 지지자들의 배척에도 불구하고, 미래 비전을 가꿀 수 있는 소중한 출구라는 점을 강조한다. 김왕배 교수는 당시 한국은 ‘국가포섭형 사회’였음에도 민간 차원에서 보국이념을 구현함으로써 우리 사회에새로운 축을 형성케 한 인물이 박태준이라고 주장한다. 국가 아니면 개인이라는 단순사회구조 속에서 기업과 교육의 새로운 장을 열었다는 것이다. 백기복 교수는 “용혼사상”(熔魂思想)을 박태준 사상의 핵심으로 제시한다. 절대빈곤, 자원부재, 자금제로, 기술과 인력부재 등의 무 상황에서 유를 창조한다는 것은 경영학적 합리주의 방식으로는 해석할 수 없으며 모든 것을 녹여내는 강력한 ‘혼’(魂)의 개념에 의해서만 설명이 가능하다는 것이다. 이러한 사상들을 한국형리더십의 8요인에 대입하여 박태준이한국형리더십의 전형이었다는 결론을 도출하였다.
The current book review is an attempt to find a prototype of Korean Leadership Style by analyzing the contents of a recently published book titled, <Thoughts of Park Taejoon, Avenue to the Future> written by Song, Choi, Jun, Kim, & Baik, 2012). Above all, Professor Song interpreted Park’s life as a personification of ‘Sunbee(Korean classical scholar) spirit’, and, based on Park’s prototypical life, suggested four behavioral norms such as ‘Will’, ‘Righteousness’, ‘Ethics’, and ‘Love’. Throughout Korean history, many Sunbees enchanted such spirit, but Park Taejoon may be the only person who practiced it in his everyday life. Professor Choi proposes “desperate patriotism” as the core concept of Park’s thoughts, which is claimed to serve as a soul motivator to dedicated military service, entrepreneurship, and a political move. Professor Jun, defining heroism as a social asset, proclaims that Park Taejoon was a genuine hero who put action before words. He also emphasized that despite defiance from the people side heros are the priceless instrument who can open up the avenue that leads to future vision of a society. Professor Kim analyzes that Park Taejoon set another axis to the Korean society by building up POSCO and educational institutes and helped overcome people’s over-reliance upon the state that prevailed during his era. Finally, Professor Baik proposes MBS(Management By Spirit) as Park’s core thoughts, which enabled him to iron out all the seemingly impossible obstacles such as deadly poverty, nil resources, lack of capital, no technology or human resources. Fighting out these obstacles and making impossible possible, he argues, cannot be explained by the management principles developed on rationality assumptions, but only by the Spirit he carried. Review of all these essays on Park’s thoughts made us reach a firm conclusion that Park Taejoon fits very well with the 8-factors prototype of Korean Leadership Style.
