Yoon HyekyungChoi Park HyewonKwon Ohseek. 2007. 2. A Study on the Oral Reading of Korean Hangul and Chinese Hanja Word, Sentence in Korean- Chinese Children and University Students. Bilingual Research 33, 121-140. This study was carried out to compare the reading time of word and sentence reading in Korean script, Hangul and Chinese script Hanja. The Korean-Chinese subjects, 5th grade and University student were participated in this experiment because of his/her bilingual ability. The results of word reading task was that Hangul reading was faster than Hanja reading in both ages, which due to the orthographic depth hypothesis. The spelling-sound correspondence is more regular in Hangul than in Hanja, so the sound construction is more easier in Hangul than in Hanja. In the the result of the sentence reading task, we could see the Hangul sentence reading was also fast than Hanja sentence and mixed sentence (Hangul and Hanja). And in Mixed sentence, reading time was longer than other type sentence. These results were discussed with the process of Hangul and Hanja reading in bilingual Korean-Chinese.(INJE University Uulsan UniversityINJE University)
