이 논문은 한국의 대표적인 신화인 <바리공주>를 대상으로 현대사회에 새롭게 적용될 수 있는 ‘여성적 리더십’을 추출해보고자 한 논문이다. 신화 속에는 인간의 원형적인 진실과 수천 년의 체험에서 얻어진 지혜가 담겨있다는 기본 전제 하에, 동서양의 신화적 원형이 오늘날 새롭게 요구되는 창의적이고 도덕적인 리더십의 핵심 내용으로 재해석될 수 있다고 보았다. <바리공주>는 전형적인 영웅의 모험담, 탐색담으로, 고난과 극복, 시련과 성장의 전형적인 서사구조를 띄고 있지만, 바리공주의 영웅적 행동을 구체적으로 살펴보면 남성 영웅과 확연히 다른 여성적 영웅성을 보여주고 있다. 바리공주의 여성적 영웅성을 ‘S-N-D-F 모델’에 의거해 살펴보면, 먼저 바리공주가 자신의 정체성을 찾고 자신의 운명을 자각하는 과정에서 보여준 신념과 의지의 발휘는 리더의 내적 속성에 해당하였다. 오구대왕의 병과 죽음이라는 문제적 상황을 해결하기 위하여 생명수를 찾아서 서천서역, 저승을 향하여 길을 가는 도중에 겪는 온갖 고난과 시련을 극복하는 행동들은 전형적인 리더십 행동에 해당하였다. 마침내 바리공주가 생명수를 구해 오구대왕을 살려내고 나아가 불라국에 새로운 질서를 세운 결과는 리더십 행동이 문제적 상황을 해결하는 피드백에 해당하였다. 이와 같이 바리공주는 리더십 형성의 전 과정을 보여줄 뿐만 아니라, 바리공주의 자아인식, 자기희생, 공감능력과 포용력과 같은 여성적 영웅성은 오늘날 새롭게 제기되고 있는 진정성 리더십이나 감성리더십, 언리더십(Un-Leadership) 등과 본질적으로 닿아 있음을 알 수 있었다.
This paper aims at exploring a new leadership training program by making use of myths. This paper focuses on the manner in which female heroism is described in shaman myth 'Princess Baridegi.' Shaman myth 'Princess Baridegi' is an adventure story or quest story such as many classic hero stories. But 'Princess Baridegi' is different from the adventure stories of masculine heros. Baridegi's heroic behaviors are not violent, competitive, and masculine. Baridegi sacrifices herself for the good of others and she has strong convictions about performing her mission 'seeking the waters of life'. She doesn't stop an exercise of willpower for a moment. Her sense of empathy and her mind of great capacity deserve explicit emphasis. Baridegi sympathizes with all spirits in their suffering and uses her holy abilities in order to save them from hell. In addition, Baridegi makes a decision to be a Godess that consoles the spirit of the deceased instead of becoming a queen. Baridegi's feminine heroic leadership is often associated with recent theories of leadership such as authentic leadership, emotional leadership and Un-Leadership.
