본 연구는 안중근과 함께한 항일 선열들의 투쟁 생활을 무용화한 뮤지컬 <영웅>이 어떤 미감을 창출하며, 이 미감은 또 어떤 의미를 지니고 있는 지를 보훈적 차원에서 바라보았다. 이러한 뮤지컬에의 접근이나 감상은 배우의 현란한 동작에 대한 무언의 탄성에 머무는 수가 흔하지만, 이는 고도의 예술 감상안으로 수행되어야 하기 때문에 철학적 이해가 필요하다. 뮤지컬에서 철학적 이해란 작가나 기획·연출자의 창작의도(정신)와 이에 따라 창출되는 미감을 알아보는 것이다. 철학은 진선미를 연구하는 학문이다. 진은 논리학, 선은 윤리학, 미는 미학으로 연구되지만, 작품의 창작의도(정신)는 논리학, 미감은 미학적 이해로 연구한다. 작가나 기획·연출자의 창작의도(정신)는 그의 현실추구와 이상추구, 현실좌절과 이상좌절 등이다. 또 이들 창작의도(정신)에 따라 이에 걸맞는 예술미는 창출된다. 대체로, 현실추구 정신에 따라서는 우아, 이상추구에서는 숭고, 현실좌절에서는 희극(골계), 이상좌절에서는 비극의 미가 각각 창출된다. 이런 철학적 접근으로 본 뮤지컬 <영웅>이 만들어 내고 있는 미감은 경직될 정도로 강력한 숭고의 이미지이다. 2막 20장 대부분에서 안중근 등 항일 의병들이 이토를 중심으로 한 일본에 항거하여 이상적 목표인 대한의 국권회복과 동양평화를 추구하려는 이상추구의 숭고미를 창출한다. 뮤지컬 <영웅>의 분위기로 보아 이 숭고미는 신비로운 정열이나 종교적 성격이 짙어, 이성의 위대성을 자각하게 하고 항일 선열들에 무관심한 현대인들에게 중압감을 주기도 하여, 안중근과 조국독립을 위해 산화한 선열들의 대한국민으로서의 명예를 되찾아 주고 숭고한 넋을 기리는 등, 정신적으로도 보답해야 하는 보훈으로서의 책임을 느끼게 한다.
