When Japanese study Korean mythology by the comparative method, they focus on two things. One is their interest in Korean mythology which is similar to theirs, the other is that they point out Korean essentials in Japanese mythology. Japanese tend to explain them in terms of the theory of horse riding people and culture diffusion and movement. It is true that the study implies the cultural exchange between Korea and Japan, but several problems remain. The first problem is that Japanese hardly ever studied creation mythology by the comparative method because they focused too much on literature mythology. The second problem is that, relying much on diffusionism, Japanese are negligent in pointing out the differences between Korea and Japan. The third problem is that Japanese are not likely to study the mythical speculation systems of Korea and Japan by comparison. To solve these problems, the object of study should be extended not only to literature but also to folklore. Moreover, diversity as well as similarity should be studied. We will be able to clarify more characteristics of mythology in the two countries, if we develop various study method and keep studying by the comparative method.
