This paper examines what material basis must be provided and after the ritual how wealth must be distributed in order for a shamanic ritual to take place. Shamanic rituals require an abundant material basis. The material basis of shamanic rituals is it's clients. In a modern, urban environment, when clients face difficulties they seek shamans to overcome these difficulties, and perform shamanic rituals in order to show their devotion to spirits through shamans. Among shamans who perform the Hwanghaedo shamanic rituals today, there are three ways of distributing the cost of labor after a shamanic ritual:one according to one's share, another by a day-rate system and third, a combination of the two. Each method of distribution has its merits and demerits and a demerit is that this sometimes causes conflict between the relations of shamans. In the distribution of wealth, the client's household which hosts the ritual has first priority and other participants receive wealth each according to their position. In the logic of the production and consumption of wealth, the client's offering of devotion and the distribution of wealth etc., is included a code which includes the relationship between spirits and men and the relationships between men and shows the desires of the participants involved. The clients wish to express their devotion and gain happiness through the wealth and spirits wishes to receive the client's devotion. The wealth consumed during a shamanic ritual is the method whereby the desires of the participants are expressed. In the distribution of wealth, a logic of equal distribution which satisfies the needs of all is realized. This viewpoint is interrelated with the universal logic of shamanism whereby harmony between all matter is sought after. This logic can be seen in the consumption patterns of shamanic rituals.
