이 논문은 한국민요지도를 작성하기 위한 예비적 시론이다. 한국민요의 지도를 문화지도의 관점에서 접근한다. 특히 그 가운데 경기도의 민요 지도를 중심으로 한 작업을 이 글에서 서론적으로 펼치기로 한다. 논문에서 중심적인 것은 민요 지도의 예비적 작업에 해당하는 작업을 정리하는 것이 긴요하다고 보아서 이론적 작업에 집중하면서 일반론을 전개하였다. 이론적 작업에서 실제 분포도까지 나아가는데 필요한 일은 많다. 그 작업의 기초를 다지고 이론적 논의를 하면서 경기도 민요를 중심으로 분포도를 임의적으로 그려보았다. 이 작업을 통한 일련의 논의를 전개하면서 작업 일반의 문화지도까지 정리하는 것이 다음의 목표로 삼고자 한다. 문화지도의 고안을 구체적으로 실행하기 위해서 필요한 작업이 여러 가지가 있다. 그러나 기본적으로 세 가지 방법의 작업 순서를 고려해야 한다. 일단 특정 대상을 한정해서 다루면서 필요한 일은 기본적 준거와 이를 논리화할 수 있는 세부적인 사실을 체계적으로 정립해야 하는 것이 가장 급선무이다.
