이 글의 목적은 최근 출간된 사회학 분야의 개론서들을 민속학개론과 비교 검토함으로써 민속학개론의 새로운 구상에 도움을 받으려는 데 있다. 구체적으로 이두현, 장주근, 이광규가 함께 펴낸 『한국민속학개설』과 비교사회학회의 『사회학: 비판적 사회읽기』, 문화사회학회의 『문화사회학』이 그 비교의 대상이다. 이 글은 이 세 권의 책을 대상으로 삼아, 독자에 대한 인식, 연구 목적과 대상, 방법론, 학문 고유의 현실 인식과 문제의식, 목차 및 장별 내용 구성 등과 관련해서 각 개론서들이 보이는 차이점과 공통점을 비교 고찰했다. 그리고 그 결과를 바탕으로 새로운 민속학개론의 집필 방향을 모색했다. 이상의 항목들을 중심으로 살펴 본 민속학개론의 문제점을 극복하기 위해서는 주된 독자가 누구인지를 명확히 하는 것, 그들의 관심과 이해를 높이기 위한 기술 장치를 다각도로 마련하는 것, 그들의 삶이나 일상적 경험과 밀착된 방식으로 내용을 구성하고 배열하는 것, 민속학의 개념과 방법론을 가지고 오늘의 현실과 일상을 이해하는 것이 어떤 것인지 보여주는 것, 무엇보다 오늘의 사회적 현실과 그 변화에 공명하는 학문이 되도록 지속적인 고민과 보완을 반복하는 것 등이 필요하다는 점을 강조했다.
The purpose of this paper is to weigh the existing introduction of folklore against the introductions of sociology, therefore to get help for the new design of an introduction of folklore. The concrete comparison targets are An introduction of folklore, Sociology: critical reading of society, and Cultural sociology. This paper compared and weighed this three books, especially focused on the similarities and differences in awareness of audience, description of purpose and objects of learning, methods and critical issues, awareness of social reality of their own, table of contents, contents organization. As a result, this paper tried to grope the direction of content organizing of the new introduction. First of all to resolve the problems of the introduction of folklore exposed by this discussion, it emphasized to definitize the core readership, to make the various writing devices to enhance its attention and understanding, to organize and arrange the contents close to its real life and ordinary experiences, to show how we can understand the social reality today with folkloristic concepts and methods, to evaluate and revise continually to be the responsive learning to social reality and change.
