Lee Jeong-jik of Seokjeong is a writer and poetry theorist who worked as a critic based on Asian study of poetry right before Western theory on literature entered Korea. 『Ganojeongseon(刊誤精選)』, completed in 1899, is an important work of literature where we can observe the poetical views of Lee Jeong-jik who had reached his final days. The book is an essay written by adding his views to the text of Fang Hui's 『Yingkuilusui(瀛奎律髓)』 of the Yuan Dynasty and 『Yingkuilusuikānwù(瀛奎律髓刊誤)』 where Jǐ-Yún of the Qing Dynasty added his views. In other words, "Ganojeongseon" is an essay of "criticism of criticism," whereby he added his views by compiling Fang Hui's work and Gi Yun's criticism thereof. The essay may be considered to have been written by Lee in the process of stating his criticism of poems with his thesis on the study of poetry. Here, Lee shows the traditional Asian academic attitude of writing as is without creating a new work of literature, but it is not a blind imitation of Fang Hui and literature theorist Gi Yun. The criticism method Lee showed in the essay is the application of the theory on the study of poetry that he ordinarily argued. Here, Lee compliments their deficient points or rights the wrong points, showing the possibility of stating his differentiated individual comments. In particular, we can confirm in the essay that Lee applied in depth and dealt with his view on the study of poetry of 'rules' that he ordinarily valued in his own criticism of poems and syntax. He emphasizes rules here in line with the premise of the need to ceaselessly study and make efforts a posteriori when it comes to poems.
