4.13 총선은 여성 후보 당선이 역대 최고 수치를 기록할 만큼 여풍이 강력했다. 이 중 주목을 끈 선거구는 이번 총선을 통해 처음 여성 의원을 배출한 강남 을과 병 지역구이다. 특히 강남 을은 여당 현역 국회의원을 상대로 야당 여성 후보가 당선되는 이변이 일어난 곳이다. 본 연구의 목적은 전통적으로 남성 의원이 당선되어온 이 지역에서 어떻게 여성 후보인 새누리당 이은재 후보와 더불어민주당 전현희 후보가 공천을 받아 선거에서 승리할 수 있었는지를 참여관찰을 통해 비교 분석하는 것이다. 두 후보의 당선에는 여러 요인이 복합적으로 작용했지만 이 후보의 당선에는 정당효과가 상당한 영향을 미친 반면, 전 후보의 당선은 선거구 조정 효과 및 세곡동 변수, 그리고 여당과 현역의원 심판론이 중요한 영향을 미쳤다. 정당과 지역이 다른 두 여성 후보의 승리 요인은 이처럼 차별성이 존재하지만 다음과 같은 공통점이 존재했다. 먼저 두 후보 모두 전직 의원 출신으로 능력과 경력 면에서 남성 후보와 견주어 손색이 없는 준비된 후보라는 인식을 유권자들에게 심어주기에 충분한 요건을 갖추고 있었다. 또한 두 후보 모두 여성으로서 본인의 장점을 극대화시키며 지역 주민들과 개인적이고 인간적인 측면에서 부드럽게 소통하며 세심한 부분까지 배려한 반면, 지역 문제와 관련된 사안에 있어서는 철저히 현실적이고 실용적인 공약을 내세워 지역 주민들의 공감대를 형성했다.
Many people are surprised by the result of Gangnam-gu which produces two female legislatures in the 20th general election, since no female candidate was elected before. The purpose of paper is to analyze how two female candidates, Hyunhee Jun from the Minjoo Party(MP) and Eunjae Lee from Saenuri Party(SP) win the election. There are similarities and differences between two female candidates with regards to winning the election. While the label of SP is a key factor to winning the election for Eunjae Lee, the impact of SP on Kangnam Eul is not very strong in this election. Due to redistricting Kangnam-gu, some conservative districts were removed from Kangnam Eul and the problems in Seguk-dong cause the blames on the incumbent from SP. Hyunhee Jun utilizes these factors in the campaigning effectively and she spend tremendous times to figure out what electorates want. The similarities of these females candidates as follows. First they are highly qualified candidates since they both have experienced as a legislator and excellent personal career. Second, they take advantage of their feminine attitudes to communicate with their electorates but suggest practical policies to handle the problems in their districts.
