The Sleeping Beauty Problem Revisited

최근 잠자는 미녀의 문제에 대하여 1/2주의 옹호 논변과 확률의 관점주의에서 절충주의를 옹호하는 논변이 제시되었다. 이 논문은 최근 김명석에 의해서 제시된 1/2주의와 절충주의에 대하여 비판하고 여전히 1/3주의가 옳음을 논증한다. 김명석의 1/2주의는 받아들이기 어려운 전제로부터 1/2주의를 옹호하고 있으며, 1/3주의자들이 1/2주의에 대하여 제기한 비판에 대한 김명석의 답변은 오해에 근거하고 있거나 1/3주의자들의 직관을 지지하는 것으로 해석될 수 있음을 보인다. 김한승이 관점주의의 성립 가능성으로 제시한 외연의 맥락 의존성의 개념적 난점을 지적함으로써 확률의 관점주의에 대해서 비판하고, 또한 관점주의에 입각하여 절충주의를 옹호하기 위해서 제시된 설정으로부터 절충주의가 옹호되는 것이 아니라 오히려 1/3주의가 옹호됨을 보인다.

Recently, an argument for the halfers to the sleeping beauty problem and an argument for the hybrid view to the problem by the virtue of perspectivalism of probability are suggested. Critically evaluating those arguments, this paper will argue that the correct answer to the problem is 1/3. It will be shown that M. Kim’s arguments for the halfers is based on the strange premise which is somewhat contradictory, and that his answer to the thirders’ criticism of the halfers is misleading and can be interpreted as supporting the thirders’ view. I argue that ‘contextual dependence of extension’ which H. Kim suggested to show that the perspectivalism of probability can be established has conceptual difficulty. So H. Kim’s perspectivalism is claimed to be a problematic concept. In addition, I argue that H. Kim’s setting to defend the hybrid view of the sleeping beauty problem actually defends the thirders.
