어미는 통사적 핵으로서 V 범주, 즉 V, V', VP 등의 범주와 결합한다. 어미의 이와 같은 결합 특성은 이론적, 경험적 측면에서 지극히 자연스러운 것으로 여러 현상을 통해 뒷받침된다. 결합 특성에 따라 어미가 형성하는 통사구조도 다양성을 띠게 되며 이러한 구조적 다양성은 현상을 통해 어느 정도 입증된다. 한편 어미 단위를 확인하고 분석하는 방법을 명확히 해야 하는데 이와 관련해 규칙성, 생산성, 합성성 등에 대한 처리 방안을 마련할 필요가 있다.
Korean endings act as syntactic heads and merge with verbal category V, V', VP. These properties are based on theoretical and empirical evidences. Furthermore, the syntactic diversity can be confirmed on the basis of empirical phenomena such as ellipsis and 'ha-'(do) support. Meanwhile the way to identify and analyze endings needs to be clarified, in which notions of such as regularity, productivity and compositionality should be considered.
