This essay entails the search for proper programs for welfare-service subjects. I argue that voluntary activities for rural communities would be a good fit. By voluntary activities for rural communities, here is meant ‘giving a hand to farmers’ or ‘welfare service for farmers’ that is not sustained for more than a week, but rather visiting rural communities for a day and giving helping support. To prove that voluntary activities for rural communities is a proper program, I point out the rightness of welfare service. And then I argue the motivation of welfare service carry little importance in the decision to act. Next I examine the current situation and the problems of the present welfare service subjects of Korean universities. I claim that voluntary activities for rural communities not only presents a suitable program that offers a solution for the problems pointed out in this essay but also contains some other positive points. However, to succeed in achieving the expected goals, it is required to take some complementary measures. For example, the professor-in-charge must implement these activities at least once or twice per semester, and needs to continue to monitor the matter. The voluntary activities for rural communities program that is conducted this way would have positive influences over students, farmers, and, moreover, the whole community.
