최근 해양자료에 대한 Web 3D GIS를 이용한 3차원 시각화에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있다. 3차원 시각화는 인터넷 환경에서 서비스 되는 GIS의 핵심적인 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 해양지리자료를 사용자의 요구에 부합할 수 있도록 해양자료의 특성을 고려하여 인터넷 환경에서 3차원으로 시각화할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 해양 GIS에서 해양자료의 특성을 분석하고, 인터넷 환경에서 3차원 지리정보시스템의 기술 현황을 검토하고, 해양공간자료의 특성을 담아낼 수 있는 GIS 시각화 방안을 탐색하였다. 첫째, 3차원 해양지리정보는 일반 지리정보와 마찬가지로 2차원 시각화보다 3차원 시각화로 관리 및 표현하는 것이 유용하다. 둘째, 상호작용적인 3차원 시각화가 정적인 시각화보다 유용한 것으로 분석되었다.

The needs of Web 3D GIS for Oceanographic Data Visualization are increasing. 3D visualization is one of the key features of Web3D GIS. This paper presents the review of web 3d GIS status and standardization regarding representation of geographical information, especially for 3D shape and appearance of Oceanographic Data visualization. Firstly, 3D GIS is more useful system to manage and visualize 3D real world data than 2D GIS. Secondly, Dynamic interactive 3D visualization more useful than static map in internet GIS environment.
