The perception of Tsushima in the Joseon dynasty was based on the thoughts that Tsushima belonged to Joseon in political, economic aspects, to Japan in territorial aspects. This perception of Tsushima is confirmed in the maps of the early Joseon dynasty, Honilgangniyokdaekukdojido(混一疆理歷代國都之圖) and Dongnamdo(東覽 圖). The map of Tsushima in Haedongjegukgi(海東諸國紀) was made by independent survey of Joseon. Tsushima was also represented in the maps of the late Joseon dynasty based on the thoughts that Tsushima belonged to Joseon and Japan, specially on the thoughts that Tsushima had been territory of Joseon in former period. The practical perception of Tsushima was represented in maps of Jeong Sanggi’s Donggukjido(東國地圖) types. The large scale maps of Tsushima were introduced by the official envoys, and raised the level of perception. The Tsushima’s subordination to Joseon was weakened in the maps of the modernization period.
