이명박 정부는 과거 참여정부와 차별화된 새로운 지역발전정책을 수립하여 추진하고 있다. 이 글은 현재 우리나라가 추진하고 있는 지역발전정책의 내용과 성격을 살펴보고 그 대표적 발전전략의 하나인 초광역개발권의 의의와 위상을 검토하고자 한다. 이 글은 우선 이명박 정부의 신지역발전정책을 내용으로 개관하고 그 의의를 몇 가지 관점에서 조명하려고 한다. 뒤이어 이 글은 광역경제권과 기초생활권의 육성과 더불어 정부의 대표적인 지역발전전략의 하나로 제시된 초광역개발권의 특성을 살펴보고 그 위상을 평가하려고 한다.
Since 2008 the administration of the President Lee Myung-bak is pursuing a new regional policy which differentiates from that of the last administration. it focuses on the maximizing the growth potential of the national territory and suggests the three-tiered regional development policy as a new strategy for regional policy. This paper reviews the core contents and characteristics of new regional policy and examines the role or function of the supra-economic region or belt.
