이 글은 현재까지 학계에 소개되지 못한 『가뎡잡지』 2년차 발행분을 발굴하여, 1호에서 7호까지의 전반적인 상을 제시했다. 이 잡지의 전반적 편집 방향은 근대 지식과 전통 가치의 공존이라 할 수 있다. 4호 이후부터 편집인 신채호보다 총무 변일(卞一)의 영향이 강화되면서 전통 가치와 관계된 기사가 강화된 현상도 밝혔다. 가정학, 국어학 등 분과학문의 체계적 전달과 함께 전통적 야담이 번안내지 개작되어 같이 실리면서 근대 지식, 이념과 봉건적 가치가 공존하는 양상을 보여준다. 『가뎡잡지』는 근대국가의 장에 본의 아니게 끼어든 한국에서 벌어진 가치의 충돌을 생생하게 중계하고 있다. 그리고 그 과정에서 근대적 가정학의 번역과 전통야담의 개작이 큰 역할을 수행했다는 점도 흥미롭다. 여성교육을 강조하면서도 남녀유별을 지켜야 하는 훈령을 게재하고, 같은 지면에서 개가와 수절이라는 상충하는 두 가지를 동시에 현창하는 등 대한제국이라는 과도기를 현장감 있게 보여주는 자료이다. 그리고 『단재신채호전집』에 수록되지 못한 신채호의 기사를 발굴하여 소개하였다.
I discover the missing issues of Home Journal’s 2nd year’s publication and represent its overall aspects. Its editorial direction can be defined as the comprise of modern learning and traditional moral. Also I argue that its eclecticism is strengthen due to the widening influence of Byeon Il, its manager, over its editor, Sin Chae-Ho after the 4th issue. Along with the systemic delivery of modern sciences such as home economics and Korean linguistics, the adaptation of traditional yadam(野談) is appeared in series so, modern learning and feudal moral are combined in it. For the coexistence of modern learning and traditional morals in Home Journal, the adaptation of Japanese home economics textbooks and traditional yadam. Therefore, it lively transmit the transitional period of Daehan Empire, being the member of modern world against own will. For example, the official instruction, publicizing the practice of women education have to preserve the traditional moral, the distinction between sexes.
