본 연구는 연결망의 변화 방식인 연결망의 증식 현상을 물리학의 열전달 및 종교 전파의 유형에 비교하고, 전도, 대류, 복사의 세 가지 증식 방식에서 전형적으로 나타나는 규칙을 찾기 위해 앤서니 기든스의 구조화 이론과 민속방법론의 재귀성과 지표성 논의를 발전시켜 적용함으로써 지금까지 상호 대화가 별로 없었던 해석학적 사회이론과 사회 연결망 현상을 연결시킨다. 본 연구는 기든스의 사회구조 개념 중 규칙에 주목하여 행위자 중심의 규칙뿐 아니라 행위자 간 상호작용에서 나타나는 체계 차원의 규칙이 갖는 중요성을 지적한다. 이에 의하면 행위자 규칙의 두 가지인 의미 형성과 정당화가 연결망 구성에서는 전형적으로 재귀성과 지표성으로 나타나고 체계 규칙에서도 재귀성과 지표성이 복합적으로 상호작용하여 방향과 초점을 이룬다. 이들 규칙은 세 유형의 연결망 증식에서 다르게 나타난다.
This study examines a way of explaining social network proliferation with social theories by developing and applying Anthony Giddens’ concept of rules and resource and Harold Garfinkel’s ethnomethodological concept of reflexivity and indexicality to three types of network proliferation: conduction, convection, and radiation. This study divides the concept of rule into agent rule and systemic rule, and the concept of resource into power and substance in order to grasp the interactional and complex dimensions in network proliferation. Each of the three types of network proliferation, the terms and concepts of which come from the physics of heat transfer, has its own compoundness, direction, and focus of reflexivity and indexicality.
