김성국 교수는 낙관적 관점에서 정보화 및 정보사회론을 수용하면서 사이버 아나키즘의 차원에서 정보사회의 미래를 전망한다. 실제로, 아나키즘은 인터넷의 등장과 함께 전 세계적으로 주목을 받기 시작하였으며, 사이버스페이스의 핵심적 이데올로기로서 작용하여 초기의 해커 윤리, GNU와 리눅스 혹은 오픈소스운동 등을 주도한다. 일종의 기술결정론적 관점을 선호하는 그는 정보기술이 지닌 시공간적 제약의 극복, 정보/지식의 탈권력화, 네트워킹에 의한 새로운 사회적 연대의 가능성에 주목하여 사이버스페이스 혹은 인터넷의 자유로운 활용을 주장한다. 나아가 정보기술혁명이 초래할 21세기의 대변화에 주목하면서 한국 사회의 미래 트렌드를 제시한다. 본 연구는 이상에서 소개된 김성국 교수의 정보사회론이 갖는 의의와 과제를 비판적으로 논의하고자 한다.
Professor Seung Kuk Kim accepts the theories of informatization and information society from the optimistic viewpoint and approaches to the future of information society in terms of cuber-anarchism. In fact, the rise of anarchism as a core ideology of cyber-space coincides with the development of internet and encourages the activities of early hackers, GNU and Rinux or open source movements. Prof. Kim as a technological determinist emphasizes the potentialities of information technology to overcome the limit set by time and space, the explosive production of information and knowledge, and social solidarity brought by networking, proposing strongly the free use of internet. Furthermore, he identifies some future mega-trends of Korean society which would be caused by IT revolutions in the 21st century. This study introduces and critically reviews the significance of Prof. Kim’s theoretical discussions of information society.
