In this study, the meanings and properties of a project method were investigated and as a result, a project method should be a type of non-routine problem requiring open-response, which can be solved by using a mathematical knowledge. On the basis of the those properties of the project method, eighty projects were selected from three types of mathematics textbooks and one teaching-learning material. In general, important two factors of a mathematics problem are mathematical 'contents' included in the question and 'solution method' for solving it. eighty projects selected in this study were classified by the two factors. As a result, the content factor derived four types of projects, and solution method factor derived additional four types of projects. The former are projects grouped as performing general task, applying mathematical history, relating to real-life, and connecting with other subjects. The latter are grouped as investigating data, using information, applying instructional tools, and executing game.
