학습자들에게 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 정의적 요인 중의 하나는 학습동기라고 할 수 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 자기결정성이론에 근거하여 초등학교 저학년 학생의 영어학습동기검사를 개발하고 그 검사의 양호도를 검증하여 타당화하는 것이다. 영어학습동기검사의 구인타당도를 검증하여 5요인모형을 채택하였다. 5요인은 무동기, 외적 조절, 주입된 조절, 확인된 조절의 외재 동기, 그리고 내재동기이었다. 준거관련 타당도를 검증하여 교사가 학생을 관찰하여 평정한 영어능숙도 점수와 개발된 검사에 의해 측정된 영어학습동기의 자율성지수와의 상관계수는 .282로 나타났다. 또한 신뢰도 검증을 위해 실시한 내적 합치도는 .725이었으며 검사-재검사 신뢰도는 .79이었다. 분석결과, 영어학습동기검사의 양호도는 비교적 양호한 것으로 나타났으며 타당도를 확인할 수 있었다.


The purposes of this study are (1) to develop English learning motivation inventory, based on Self-Determination Theory, (2) to confirm component factors of the construct proposed by the SDT, and (3) to test the goodness of the English learning motivation inventory developed in this study. The results of confirmatory factor analyses revealed that the 5-factor model as well as the 4-factor model have good model fit statistics. However, the 5-factor model was chosen as the best model for the English learning motivation inventory in this study according to the principle of parsimony. The five factors were amotivation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, and intrinsic motivation. The Cronbach's alphas for the overall test and the component factors were high enough to satisfy the requirement for the test as a measurement inventory for English learning motivation. Also, the item discrimination indices, which were correlation coefficients between individual item scores and the mean score for each factor, turned out to be appropriate for all the items. Finally, the correlation between English learning motivation inventory scores, which are RAIs, and English achievement scores was also significant. This result confirmed the criterion-related validity of the English learning motivation inventory developed in this study.
