장애인의 사회적 지지가 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향에 있어서 장애정체감이란 변인의 매개효과를 검증해보고자, 장애인자립생활센터와 장애인종합복지관 이용자인 장애인들을 대상으로 조사한 자료를 다중 회귀분석으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 사회적 지지와 임파워먼트의 관계에 있어서 장애정체감의 완전매개효과가 검증되었고, 사회적 지지를 가족 및 친척, 동료장애인 및 친구 그리고 사회복지사 등 전문가의 세 가지 제공원 별로 나눠서 분석해본 결과에서는, 동료장애인 및 친구의 사회적 지지가 임파워먼트와의 관계에 있어서 장애정체감의 완전매개효과를 나타내었다. 장애인의 임파워먼트를 위해서는 장애정체감을 높일 수 있는 사회복지적 접근이 필요하다. 장애정체감의 완전매개효과로 인하여, 장애정체감을 고려하지 않은 채 사회적 지지만을 높이는 사회복지적 접근으로는 임파워먼트에 영향을 주기 어렵기 때문에, 임파워먼트를 위한 사회적 지지 향상 프로그램은 항상 매개요인인 장애정체감을 고려하여 기획되어야 할 것이다. 또한 장애인 상담이나 원조방식에 있어서, 전문가의 상담이나 전문가의 원조보다도 동료상담이나 동료지원 등을 우선적으로 고려하여야 할 것이다.
This study aims at proving the mediating effect of disability identity―a variable in this study―when assessing the impact that the social support to persons with disabilities has on empowerment. For this study, the data collected from persons with disabilities who are using an independent living center or a community rehabilitation center is analyzed by a multiple regression analysis technique. As a result of this study, it is proved that the perfect mediating effect of disability identity takes place in the relation between social support and empowerment. In addition, this study also analyzes social support from the perspective of the following 3 supporter groups: family and relatives; peers with disabilities or friends; and social workers. As a result, the social support from peers with disabilities or friends shows the perfect mediating effect of disability identity in the relation with empowerment. A social work approach that does not consider disability identity but only pursues social support could not affect empowerment. Thus, a program which is implemented to enhance the social support for empowerment should always be designed in consideration of disability identity―a mediating factor in this study. Additionally, in terms of counseling and support, peer counseling and peer support should also be considered ahead of the counseling and support from experts.
