한반도에 분포하는 대부분의 분지가 구조선이나 화강암의 차별침식에 의해 형성된 것으로 알려져 있으나, 주암분지는 분지저와 분지벽을 이루는 산지가 동일한 편마암으로 이루어져 있다. 분지 내부에 분포하는 지형 살펴보았다. 그리고 산봉우리와 능선의 고도(高度)가 거의 동일하게 나타나는 지형적 특성을 알고자 고도별 분포 를 파악하였다. 산정과 능선의 고도별 특성은 산록 완경사면, 저기복 구릉의 고도(高度), 하안단구의 고위면에서 각각 고도의 동일성을 보인다. 뿐만 아니라 고도분포 특성이 단계적 변화 과정을 나타내고 있다. 이러한 특징은 산지의 생성과 고동일성을 보이는 산지와 능선은 풍화층의 삭박과 융기작용에서 기인한다고 할 수 있다. 심층풍화층을 기반암으로 하는 상부에는 지표쇄설성 암설로 피복되어 있는 지형면과 하천역층으로 이루어진 하안단구의 지형면이 존재한다. 이들 지형면은 면적과 높이를 달리하며 계단상으로 분포한다. 일대에서 관찰된다. 구하상은 현하상보다 훨씬 넓은 범위에 걸쳐 흘렀으며, 유로변화과정을 거친 것으로 밝혀졌다. 분지저에는 풍화층이 삭박, 저하되는 과정에서 돔(Dome) 형태의 암석 구릉이 독립적으로 분포한다.
Most of the basins in our country are known as the landforms formed by differential erosion of thestructural lines or granites, while the floor and wall of Juam basin consists of the same kind of basal rock, gneiss. Afteranalyzing the topographical characteristics of the basin into slip face, gentle slope, hills, river terrace, and so on, I havestudied and analyzed the topographical components of the landforms in Juam basin. And I have made out the distributionof the altitude of mountain top and ridgeline to catch the similarity of their altitude. Gentle slope, hills, and fluvial terraceare the same geomorphic surfaces in altitude level. In addition, these geomorphic surfaces have lowered gradually. Thesecharacteristics suggest the development process of basins such as the production of the mountain side and lowering ofthe altitude of the basin floor. In other words, they result from the denudation of weathering layer and the interval uplift.The deposits of river terraces and piedmont gentle slopes cover the upper part of deep weathered basal rock. Thesegeomorphic surfaces vary according to their altitude and area and they produce a steplike platform.There are high, middle and low levels in the region of the fluvial terrace. The fluvial terrace is mostly found in the areaof Juam valley and the Boseong river. Ancient river beds distributed through much wider regions than modern ones andit went through the process of changing the river chanel.Some hills like Domes have isolated distribution in the low basin in the course of the denudation and lowering of theweathered mantle.
