오늘날 지구 생태계는 환경파괴로 인해 심각한 생태학적 위기에 직면해 있다. 우리 인류의 지속적인 생존도 보장받을 수 없는 절박한 상황에서, 과연 우리는 이러한 생태계 위기를 어떻게 극복해야 할 것인가? 이 글에서 우리는 이러한 환경위기, 혹은 생명위기의 문제를 ‘생명중심적 윤리(the biocentric Ethics)’를 통해 그 해결의 실마리를 모색해 보고자하며, 또한 이러한 생명중심적 윤리의 근저에는 하이데거의 본질적 사유가 자리하고 있음을 밝혀보고자 한다. 이러한 우리의 논의를 위해서 먼저, 예비적 고찰로서 폴 테일러(P. Taylor)의 생명중심주의에 대한 입장과 하이데거의 근원적 윤리학(The original Ethics)에 대해 간략히 검토해 볼 것이며, 그런 다음 하이데거의 『형이상학의 근본개념들』을 중심으로 하여 생명의 의미와 본질에 대한 그의 사유를 해명해 봄으로써, 그의 입장과 생명중심주의적 입장이 근원적으로 결코 다르지 않음을 유비적으로 드러내보고자 한다. 그리하여 결국 생명의 본질에 대한 하이데거의 본질적 사유가 ‘생명중심적 윤리’의 토대로서 작용할 수 있음을 밝혀보고자 한다.
Today, the ecological system of the earth is at a serious ecological crisis due to the destruction of environment. Under the situation in which the human species' continuous survival is not guaranteed, how can we overcome this kind of ecological crisis? In this paper, by way of bio-centric ethics we try to find a clue for solving this problem of ecological crisis or life crisis. Also we intend to clarify that Heidegger's essential speculation is situated on the basis of bio-centric ethics. Before the development of our discussion, as a preliminary investigation, we will briefly examine P. Taylor's standpoint toward the thought of bio-centrism and Heidegger's orignal ethics. Then, we, centered around Heidegger's Grundbegriffe der Metaphysik, elucidating his thought about the meaning and essence of life, try to reveal comparatively that there is no original difference between his position and his bio-centric attitude. Thus, we are trying to clarify that Heidegger's position toward the essence of life can work as the basis of ‘bio-centric ethics’.
