『徒然草』は、日本中世を代表する随筆で、その内容は多岐に渡る. 本稿は、同書の女性観と仏教の関係について論じたものである. 『徒然草』には伝統的な仏教思想に基づいた女性観が見られる一方で、広く仏典に見られる女性不浄という部分が見えない. 『徒然草』は男性は色欲から逃れられないという立場をとり、そのためには女性から離れる必要があると考える. だからこそ、男性にとって心引かれてしまう女性という存在は、不浄などではなく、むしろ心を惑わす魅力を持った存在として認識されているのである.
"Tsurezuregusa" is the essay written at medieval times and is also one of the works representing Japanese classical literature. It includes various contents. In this article, I discussed the relation of the view of women and Buddhism which appeared in "Tsurezuregusa." We can find the view of women which was based on traditional Buddhism in "Tsurezuregusa". But it is difficult to find out the view that woman is impure widely seen at Buddhist literatures. Because "Tsurezuregusa" insist that a male does not escape a sexual desire, and to do so, a male should keep away from a woman. Therefore, the existence of the woman is recognized as an attractive object for a male rather than an impure existence
