본고는 서구 권위이론들에 내재하는 권위패러독스의 내용 및 원인을 밝히고, 그 해소를 모색하기 위해서 마련되었다. 권위패러독스는 판단포기복종교리와 권위의 소유개념화로부터 기인하였다. 문제의 소재는 권위선재가정, 권위독존가정, 권위실체화가정, 등 3가정과 이에 근거하는 복종목적포기, 판단의지포기, 자율성포기 등의 문제 및 권위에 대한 소유논리문제, 권위표현형식상의 소유논리 구조화문제에 있었다. 권위패러독스의 해소작업은 우선3가정을 권위정의명제에 근거하여 그 오류를 밝히고 수정하는데서 출발했다. 다음으로 권위패러독스를 야기하는 판단포기복종 및 소유개념화의 문제점들을 권위복종에서의 자율성 회복을 통하여 해결했다. 끝으로 가정상의 오류수정과 판단포기복종교리 및 소유개념화의 문제점들에 대한 해결에 근거하여 서구 권위담론 및 실천관행에 수용되고 있는 권위표현형식의 소유논리구조를 해체함으로써 권위패러독스 해소작업을 마무리하였다. 결어로서, 서구 권위이론 및 논의들의 관행적 권위이해에 함의되어있는 권위주의와 관련하여, 권위패러독스해소가 권위주의폐단, 권위주의적 오해, 이 오해의 관행적 고질화 등에 대해 가지는 3가지 시사점을 생각해보았다.
This study is to trace out the roots and the content of authority-paradox innate within the Western authority theories, as well as to grope for its dissolution. What is found out through the study is that the paradox sets in between conceptualization practices of authority by those theories and the definition of authority that has been installed within them; that it is caused from two problems--that of ‘surrender of judgement’ and that of ‘possessive conceptualization of authority’. Attempt to dissolve the paradox starts from disproving the validity of, and correcting the errors in, three premises presupposed by those two problems. Then it proceeds to settle those problems built upon them. It is finalized with the revision of the authority-relationship schema implanted in almost all the authority related narratives and practices in the West. The result of study has some implications for redressing three deep-seated misunderstandings and unjustifiable practices of authority, which are politico-socially authoritarian in their nature.
