이 글은 다문화와 한국의 정체성이라는 의제를 염두에 두면서, 한국의 정체성 재정립을 위한 간문화적 접근방안을 탐색하는 데 목적을 두고, 집단정체성으로서의 국가정체성과 디아스포라 정체성에 대해 각각 살펴보고, 여기에 기초하여 간문화성의 관점에서 한국의 정체성에 대해 논의하였다. 다문화사회를 향한 사회변동 과정에 비추어볼 때, 한국의 정체성 재정립과 관련된 기본적인 문제와 과제는 다음과 같이 몇 가지 명제로 정식화할 수 있다. 첫째, 자민족중심주의나 국민주의(민족주의)로 흐를 가능성이 많았던 전통적인 국가정체성 개념을 넘어서서, 다중정체성 혹은 조망정체성의 측면을 고려하고, 비판적 성찰․소통․담론을 통하여 유연성을 확보할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 다른 시각에서 살펴본 디아스포라 정체성에 대해서도 역시 비판적 성찰이 요청되며, 이를 통하여 더 큰 공동체의 사회통합 및 정체성을 시야에서 놓치지 않으려는 안목이 요구된다. 셋째, 보편적인 인권․민주주의에 지향을 둔 의미에서의 간문화성과 개방적․다원적 국가정체성의 균형과 조화에 기반을 둔 모형을 시의적절한 준거 혹은 대안으로 삼을 만하다.
The purpose of this paper is to share the results of a study that focused on the intercultural approach towards reestablishment of Korean identity. To arrive at this aim, the researcher dealt with the following themes: the concepts of national identity and diaspora identity as forms of collective identity, and Korean identity from the perspective of interculturality. The bottom line of this article can be formulated as follows. Beyond the traditional concepts of national or diaspora identity, which tend to regress to ethnocentrism or nationalism, and to communautarisme or parallel society, we should pay attention to the emergent form of multiple or perspective identity, and secure a greater flexibility through the process of critical reflection. We should consider the model based on the balance between interculturality in the sense of orientation towards universal human rights and democracy and an open and pluralistic national identity as an appropriate and alternative reference frame for the reestablishment of Korean identity.
