본고는 고린도전서 11장 2-16절을 통해 바울이 말하고자 한 원래 의도와 그 이유를 밝히고자 함이다. 기존의 연구와는 달리 필자는 이 본문에서 바울은 여자들에게 머리를 풀어 헤치는 광란적 태도를 금하는 것도 아니고, 남자와 여자의 불평등을 주장하는 것도 아니며, 단지 머리카락을 가리라고 권면하는 것으로 파악한다. 그리고 그 이유는 초기 그리스도교의 공동식사로 말미암은 것으로 본다. 대개 그리스도인이 되기 전에는 매일 식사하며 살같이 가깝게 지내는 사람이란 남편과 아내 외에는 없었다. 그러나 예수를 믿고 세례를 받아 그리스도인이 된 후에는 “하나님 아버지”라고 부르고, 공동체 멤버들 간에 “형제여, 자매여!”라고 부르는 성가족 공동체로서 구체적인 실천 사항으로 매일 저녁 공동식사를 했던 것이다. 이런 분위기 속에서 아내 외에 다른 여자의 반짝이는 머리카락을 보면서 통제하기 어려운 성욕을 느끼게 됨으로써 형성된 문제였던 것이다. 이 본문이 성적인 문제라는 것은 “사탄”이란 표현에서 간접적으로 유추된다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 바울은 여성신도들에게 교회에 모일 때에 머리카락을 노출하지 말 것을 권고하는 것인데, 그 이유를 노골적으로 표현하지 못하고, 1) 남녀의 위계질서(11:3-6),2) 창조질서(11:7-12), 3) 자연질서(11:13-15)등으로 설득하고자 하였지만, 스스로도 설득력이 없음을 깨닫고, 더 이상 따지지 말라(11:16)고 못박는 것으로 마감하고 말았다. 이 본문은 기독교 역사에서 여자가 남자보다 열등하다는 것을 가르치는 성서적 근거로 사용되었는데, 이는 성서 본문이 기록된 당시의 교회 상황을 고려하지 않고 문자로 고정된 내용만을 전달하면서, 이 본문의 원래 의도는 잊혀지고 그 의도를 위해 사용된 당대의 남녀의 불평등한 문화와 가치관만을 강조하게 된 성서 사용의 오류가 기독교 역사에서 가장 잘 반영된 경우라고 하겠다.
The purpose of this paper is to understand the intention of Paul in 1Cor 11:2-17 and the situation of the Corinth's Community. I think Paul didn't intent to provide against the ecstatic - pneumatic worship celebrations of the Corinthian women and to insist the unequalness between men and women, but to say covering the hair of the women. Normally, many people have the intimate relationship between husband and wife at home. After they have been Christian, they say "God father" and "brother and sister" each other. They have identified themself as the holy family and are gathered for the commen meal every evening. Some men have the sexual interst for the other women through the hair. It is clear that the problem in this text is sexual, because the "satan" is mentioned in this context. In order to solve this problem Paul insist that the women should cover their hair wenn they are gathered, but he couldn't say direct. He try to argue with 1) the sexual hierarchie(11:3-6), 2) the order of the creation(11:7-12), 3) the nature (11:13-15). But he noticed that his argument was not logical and concluded with verse 16. This text is used as the example for the massage of the unequality between man and woman in the christian history. It is one of the error in the use of the Bibel.
