The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between children’s early educational experiences in preschool and the school-adjustment and academic achievement in their first grade in an elementary school. The subjects consisted of 204 first graders, their parents, and seven teachers. The data were collected with SAI-1st Grade developed by Chi Sung-Ae and Jung Dae-Hyun(2006), and a Korean/Math academic achievement test developed by the researcher. Additionally, a questionnaire was completed by the parents to assess the early educational experiences prior to the elementary school. The data were analyzed with the ANCOVA. In conclusion, the type of educational experiences children had during preschool years can affect their school-adjustment and academic achievement in the first grade.
