테러 그리고 테러에 대한 보복의 전쟁은 그 어느 것도 인류에게 참 평화를 가져다주지 못하고 있다. 우리는 그칠 줄 모르는 중동에서의 전쟁, 이라크에 이어 아프가니스탄 등에서 일어나는 전쟁이 이슬람교와 서방 기독교와 대결로 마치 종교가 가세한 전쟁으로 보는 오류를 범할 수 있다. 특히 종교를 내세운 문명 충돌현상은 더욱 사태를 악화시키고 있다. 왜냐하면 유대교, 이슬람교, 기독교는 뿌리가 다 같은 종교로서 구약성서의 전통을 가지고 있고, 그리고 세 종교 모두가 구약 성서의 창세기에 나오는 아브라함을 신앙의 조상으로 삼고 있기 때문이다. 나아가 이들 종교들은 모두가 종교의 기본 성격인 평화와 화해를 추구하고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구는 테러와 전쟁을 막고 평화를 모색하기 위해서 아브라함으로부터 출발한 유대교, 이슬람교, 그리고 기독교의 서로 다른 면 보다는 공통점에 더 주력한다. 똑 같이 경전을 중요시하고, 같은 하느님을 믿고 있고 그리고 어느 점에서 모두 평화를 추구한다는 점에서 그렇다. 본 논문의 결과는 평화의 새 문명 창조를 제시하고 있는데, 그것은 타 문명에 대한 이해와 연구 그리고 이데올로기로서 기독교가 아닌 성서의 정신에서 온다고 명시하고 있다. 그것은 물리적 힘이 아니라, 평화의 왕으로 오신 그분에게 집중하고자 한다. 바로 그것이 복음의 힘으로 나타나기를 기대한다.
As the 21st. century dawns, America has found itself in a tough situation. After the terror attack on the world Trade Center on September 11th. 2001, president Bush proclaimed a "war against terror" and provoked wars whichseemed like a war against the islamic countries. So some scholars, such as Samuel P. Huntington have referred to this time as the crash of civilization. We find in the ancestor of faith Abraham the root of the three civilizations: Christianity, Judaism, Islam. Abraham has been the ancestor and the father of the faith of these three religions. They have the same belief in God. They should love one another. The Bible says: "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you. Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."(Matthew 5:38-39) Christianity should come back into the true spirit of the Bible which pursues reconciliation and peace.
