본고의 제목에 붙은 “북정(北征)”의 의미는 박세당의 문집인 『서계집』의 일부인 시집 『北征錄』과 『後北征錄』에서 가져왔다. 이 시집은 본고에서 강원도를 돌아보는 데에 많은 역할을 하였다. 병마평사가 되어 함경도로 가는 여정 속의 환유(宦遊)와 함경도에서 열린 선대의 연시례(延諡禮) 참석 과정에서 강원도를 유람(遊覽)한 감흥을 담은 두 시집은 강원도의 산세와 절경이 여행객의 발자취를 따라 추보식으로 구성되어 있다. 두 시집과 아울러 박세당의 첫 번째 시집 『東行拾囊』도 강원도 흡곡(歙谷)으로 가는 객심(客心)을 표현하고 있어 조선의 유자가 갖는 강원도 여행객의 심사를 짐작할 수 있다. 본고에서는 박세당의 『西溪集』뿐만 아니라 박세당의 차남인 박태보의 『定齋集』에 나타난 정치가로서 행정가로서 나아가 강원도 이천(伊川)의 목민관으로서의 박태보를 살펴 17세기 강원도의 실상과 나아갈 바를 모색하였다. 두 문집에 나타난 17세기 조선의 강원도 모습을 통해 당시의 강원도를 짐작해 보고, 조선의 사대부가 남긴 강원도에 대한 기억을 찾아보고자 하였다. 비록 본고에서 17세기 조선의 전반적인 모습을 모두 투영할 수는 없지만 강원도라는 지역을 통해 강원도의 지역적 특성을 살필 수 있고, 조선의 지역적 모습과 실상을 살피는 데에 의의가 있다고 할 것이다.
The meaning of Bukjeong(北征) entitled in this article is quoted from Bukjeongrok and Hubukjeongrok (『北征錄』 and 『後北征錄』), collection of poems from Seogyejip, a collection of works by Park, Se-dang. This poem collection played much role in recalling Gang-won do in this article. The two poem collections, which contained the inspiration from traveling around Gang-won do while attending Yeonsirae(延諡禮)(traditional commemorative service) and itinerary of going to Hamgyongdo as a Byeongmapyeongsa, are composed of mountain and picturesque views in chronological order from the footprint of a traveler. Along with the two anthologies, Donghaengseupnang(『東行拾囊』), the first poem collection by Park, Se-dang, describes well the feelings of a drifter heading toward Heupgok(歙谷), Gangwondo, and thereby helps to catch a glimpse of the mood of a traveler as a Joseon Confucian scholar. This article intends to capture the reality of Gangwondo in the 17th century and the way forward the future by examining Park, Tae-bo, as a governor in Icheon, Gangwondo, as well as a politician and administrator, who was manifested in Jeongjejip(『定齋集』) by Park, Tae-bo, the second son of Park, Se-dang, coupled with Seogyejip(『西溪集』) by Park, Se-dang. Through the representation of Gangwondo, Joseon in the two works of collection, I tried to revive the memory left by Joseon’s nobility, while guessing Gangwondo at that time. Although this article can’t contain whole picture of Joseon in the 17th century, it is worth examining the locality and reality during Joseon dynasty period, besides looking over the local feature through the area of Gangwondo.
