『鍾北少選』 自序는 연암 박지원의 문학론을 담고 있는 대표적이고 중요한 문장으로 알려져 왔다. 연암의 작품으로 믿어 의심하지 않았던 이 작품이『종북소선』이라는 책이 나타남으로써 그 서문의 저자는 연암이 아니고 이덕무임이 밝혀졌다. 『종북소선』이라는 책의 서문에 이덕무가 썼다고 기록되어 있기 때문이다. 그런데 최근에 공개된 『碧梅園雜錄』이라는 책에는 그 서문을 보다 문예적으로 다듬은 「鍾北小品序」라는 글이 수록되어 있는데, 그 저자가 박지원으로 되어 있다. 서문의 작자가 서로 달리 표기된 두 책의 내용은 양립 불가능한 관계에 있다. 하나가 참이면 하나는 반드시 거짓이어야 한다. 작자 문제에 시비가 생긴 것이다. 본고는 서문의 진짜 작가가 누구인가를 규명하기 위해 집필된 것이다. 두 책을 깊이 검토하여 거기에 따르는 수많은 의문점을 제시하고, 이 의문점을 모두 해소시킬 수 있는 가설을 세워 이를 추론하였다. 『종북소선』의 서문과 「종북소품서」의 저자에 대한 상이한 표기를 합리적으로 설명하기 위해 얻을 수 있는 대안은 결국 두 글을 모두 박지원이 지었다는 가설을 세우고 이를 유추할 수밖에 없었다. 요컨대 『종북소선』의 原作 서문과 『벽매원잡록』의 改修된 서문은 모두 연암 박지원이 지은 것이라는 결론이 도출되었고, 그런 결론만이 제시된 수많은 의문점을 풀 수 있다.
The preface of Jongbuksoseon(鍾北少選) has been known as a representative and important text that involves the literature theory of Yeonam Park Jiwon. This work that had been regarded as Yeonam's work turned out that its author was not Yeonam but Lee DeokMu by the appearance of a book called Jongbuksoseon, because there is a record that it is written by Lee Deokmu in the preface of Jongbuksoseon. However, a book Beokmaewonjabrok(碧梅園雜錄), which was released recently, contains a piece of writing titled Jeongbuksopoomseo(鍾北小品序) that is refined the preface literarily, and the writer is Park Jiwon. The contents of those two books, which were marked the writer of its preface different, are in an incompatible relation. If one is true, the other has to be certainly false. The matter of who is the writer came to have right and wrong. This paper was written to investigate who is the real author. It suggests many questions by studying these two books deeply, establishes a hypothesis that can solve these doubts and infers the truth. As a result, the only alternative to explain the record of two different writers of the preface of Jongbuksoseon and Beokmaewonjabrok rationally was establishing the hypothesis that Park Jiwon wrote all those two texts and making a deduction. In the final analysis, it was deducted that the original preface of Jongbuksoseon and the revised one of Beokmaewonjabrok were all written by Yeonam Park Jiwon, and only the conclusion is able to solve lots of proposed questions.
