본고는 18세기 奇의 함의와 실제를 밝히는 작업의 일환으로써 그 대상을 심익운의 산문에 주목하여 기술하였다. 심익운의 생애는 타의에 의한 좌절과 고립으로 인해 자신의 처한 주변상황이나 자신과 관계된 외부세계에 민감하게 반응하였다. 이러한 상황은 그의 문학에 고스란히 반영되었으며, 자신만의 글쓰기로 삶의 이치를 녹여내어 재창조하였다. 따라서 체식에서 구속되기보다는 변주·일탈적 양상을 보이고, 일상적인 일화나 비근한 소재들을 立論하며, 우언 등의 익히 전해들은 이야기들을 자신의 비판적 시각으로 재창작하고 있다. 특히 전술된 우언을 敍事의 의도적인 재구성과 변용을 통해서 자신의 논지를 객관화하고 있다. 또한 漢字가 가진 함의와 특징을 통한 文氣의 변화와, 그 속에서의 자기정서를 직접적으로 표출하고 있다. 심익운 글쓰기의 주된 방식은 독자적 변주와 현실에 맞는 실제적 창작이 병존하고 있다. 이는 당대 문인들과는 또 다른 양상이며 奇의 다양성을 보이고 있다.
This paper focuses on Sim Ik-un’s prose as a part of work which reveals implication and meaning of 'Novelty' in the 18th century. During his whole life, he responded sensitively to his surroundings and external world that is related to him due to his frustration and isolation against his own will. This was reflected in his works and he developed his own writing style which reflected his understanding of human life. Accordingly, he used ordinary subjects and reproduced well-known stories like allegoric tales through his critical review. He objectified his views through an intentional recomposition and a transformation of his description, especially in the process of reproducing allegoric tales. Most of his descriptions in his formal writings are very concise by using words and phrases efficiently. And he also expressed his emotions directly in the change of vigor through the implication and peculiarity of Chinese characters. It is reasonable to say that his main way of writing is realistic and practical rather than creative. This is different from what other writers had done with their writings at the time and it shows a diversity of 'Novelty'.
