이 연구의 목적은 개정 특수학교 기본 교육과정에 의거하여 2008년 개발된 특수학교 기본 교육과정 사회과 교과서에 대한 현장 특수학교 교사들의 만족도와 관련 요구를 분석함으로써 특수학교 사회과 교과서의 질적 평가 및 개선방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전국 11개 특수학교에 재직 중인 99명의 특수교사를 대상으로 사회과 교과서 만족도 및 요구에 대한 설문을 실시하였다. 설문결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전반적인 구성 측면에서는 단원별, 수준별, 교과간의 연계성 및 계열성을 비롯한 적절성, 삽화․사진 구성 등이 매우 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 내용 측면에서 학습자의 참여 유도를 비롯한 학습자의 특성 반영, 단계별 개인생활, 공동생활, 경제·문화생활 내용이 적절하게 구성된 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 삽화․사진 및 활동자료 구성 측면에서 적절하게 구성된 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 교과서 활용 및 보급 측면에서 활용 비중을 높이기 위해서는 학생 능력과 좀 더 일치하는 교과서 개발 방안 모색이 필요하며, 개인별 교과서 보급 근거 마련이 시급한 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 개선방향 측면에서는 현행 Ⅲ단계 체제로 구성된 교과서의 체제 개선뿐만 아니라 부족한 교과서 내용의 보충을 위한 보완교과서 개발이 필요한 것으로 나타났다.


The purpose of this study is to analyze the satisfaction and needs of special school teachers on the social studies textbooks which developed on 2008 according to the new special education course and to execute the qualitative evaluation of them and to develop the improvement plan. To accomplish this research, we practice the questionaries about the satisfaction of social studies textbooks to 99 special school teachers who work in the special schools in all different region. The result of survey is as following. First of all, the general organization such as the chapter, the level, the connection between curriculum is very good. Second, as in the contents, it contains personal life, community life, economic and cultural life and even it reflects the individual qualities to make them to participate, so it was good. Third, the illustration, the picture, and the activity materials in the text book was well-arranged. Forth, an aspect of the application and popularities, it needed to be more adjusted with the student abilities, and a supplying individual text book preparation is a urgent matter. Fifth, an aspect of improvement, existing textbooks which organized with 3 levels needed to be organized with 7 levels and developing supplement textbooks are suggested.
