본 논문은 “이종성이 제시한 통전적 신학에서 신학과 철학의 관계를 어떻게이해하는가?”라는 질문에 답하고자 시도한다. 이러한 작업을 수행하기 위해 본논문은 『춘계 이종성 저작전집 40권』 및 다른 저작들 중에서 신학과 철학과의 관계를 다룬 자료들을 중심으로 살펴본다. 구체적으로 본 논문 II장에서는 첫째로서양신학에 대한 이종성의 전체적인 평가 속에서, 다음으로 서양신학사를 개관하는 이종성의 서술 속에서 그리고 마지막으로 서양신학의 신관(神觀)에 대한 이종성의 분석 속에서 각각 신학과 철학이 어떠한 관계로 드러나고 있는지를 고찰한다. 그 다음으로 본 논문의 III장에서는 이종성이 제시하는 통전적 신학 속에서 철학이 가지는 위치를 살펴본다. 이를 위하여 그의 통전적 신학의 체계를 조망하고그의 통전적 신학의 서두(序頭)를 개관한다. 이러한 연구와 분석을 통하여 본 논문은 신학-철학의 관계에 대한 이종성의대답을 다음과 같이 제시한다. 즉 이종성은 서양신학에서 신학과 철학이 “알력사” 의 관계를 노정하였다고 분석하고 있으며, 또한 이러한 관계 하에서 철학에 큰 영향을 받은 신학을 “비철학화(비희랍화)” 해야 한다고 제안한다. 이러한 차원에서이종성이 제시하는 통전적 신학에서는 철학이 “복음에로의 준비과정”(praeparatio evangelica)이며 “신학에 봉사하는 의의”(praeparatio theologia)를 지닌다. 이러한 점에서 이종성의 통전적 신학은 그가 비판적으로 평가하는 서양신학에 비하여 철학을 비롯한 다른 학문들과의 상호적인 만남과 대화를 추진하는 데 더유용하고 효과적인 틀을 제시해 주기에 학문적으로 큰 의의가 있으며 중요하다.
This paper makes an attempt to answer a question,“How is the theology-philosophy relation understood in the holistic theology of Jong-Sung Rhee?”In order to do so, this paper deals with all his books and writings which are focused on the theology-philosophy relation. Particularly, Chapter II tries to examine the theology-philosophy relation, first, in his overall evaluation of western theology, and then in his descriptive survey of a history of western theology, and lastly in his analysis of an idea of God in western theology. And then Chapter III tries to investigate what is the position or status of philosophy in the holistic theology of Jong-Sung Rhee. For this purpose this paper tries to survey the whole system of his holistic theology and also the methodological preface of his holistic theology. Through this research and analysis, this paper provides an answer of Jong-Sung Rhee with regards to a question about the theology-philosophy relation. Rhee shows that western theology has been disclosing “a history of friction” between theology and philosophy, and then he suggests that western theology, too heavily influenced by philosphy, should be “dephilosophized.” In this sense Rhee’s holistic theology understands that philosophy is “praeparatio evangelica”and “praeparatio theologia.” Considering these points, Rhee’s holistic theology is very significant and important, because it could provide a more useful and more effective framework for seeking a mutual meeting and dialogue with other disciplines of science than the previous western theology.
