우리나라에서만 해도 해마다 수백 명의 교회음악 전공자들이 배출되고 있지만, 졸업생의 거의 대부분이 교회에서 파트타임 반주자나 지휘자 등으로 봉사하고 있고, 어느 한 교회의 음악 분야를 전담하는 사역자는 찾아보기 어렵다. 아무리 많은 교회음악 전공자가 배출된다 하여도 정작 교회에서 음악사역자의 필요성을 느끼지 않는다면 앞으로도 상황은 별로 달라지지 않을 것이다. 일반적으로어느 교회의 사역 계획과 의사 결정에 가장 큰 영향력을 가진 이가 담임목사이기때문에 음악사역자에 대한 그들의 생각을 알아볼 필요가 있다. 이 논문의 목적은 예장통합 교단의 음악사역자 현황과 음악사역자의 필요성에 대한 담임목사의 의식을 조사하고, 음악사역자 제도의 필요성과 발전 방안을연구하는 것이다. 이 목적을 이루기 위해 사용된 주된 연구 방법은 설문 조사이다. 본 연구자가 표집한 15개 노회의 300개 교회에 설문지가 발송되었고, 최종적으로 167부가 분석에 사용되었다. 설문에 응답한 교회의 21.0%에 음악사역자가 있었고, 그 중에서 22.2%가전임 음악사역자였다. 음악사역자의 필요성에 대해서는 91.3%의 응답자가 긍정적으로 답하였고, ‘교회 재정이 허락할 경우 전임 음악사역자를 둘 필요가 있다.’라는 진술에는 96.9%의 응답자가 긍정적으로 답하였다. 음악사역자 제도의 필요성에 대해서도 담임목사의 91.6%가 긍정적으로 응답하였다. 그리고 ‘음악사역자 제도가 총회를 통과하고 시행되면 본 교단의 전임 음악사역자 수가 앞으로 증가할 것이다.’라는 진술에 대해서도 담임목사의 88.5%가 긍정적인 응답을 보였다. 이 연구는 담임목사들이 전반적으로 음악사역자와 음악사역자 제도에 대해긍정적인 의견을 갖고 있음을 보여주었다. 결론에서 본 연구자는 음악사역자 제도가 만들어지고 실행될 수 있도록 교회음악과와 교단이 적극적으로 나서야 하고, 교단 헌법에 음악목사 조항을 삽입하고, 교회에서 필요로 하는 음악사역자를양성하기 위해 새로운 교과과정을 마련할 것을 제안하였다.
Hundreds of church music major students are produced every year in Korea. However, itis hard to find a music minister who is in charge of the whole music ministry of a local church. The purpose of this paper was to survey the current situation of the music minister inthe Presbyterian Church of Korea(PCK) and the senior pastors’ consciousness on the musicminister, and to investigate the necessity of the system of the music minister and the way ofdeveloping the system. The main method of research which was intended to implement thepurpose was the questionnaire survey. The questionnaires were sent out to 300 churches in 15presbyteries sampled by this researcher, and finally 167 pieces were used for analysis. Only 21.0% of the churches surveyed reported they have a music minister. And 22.2%of them were full-time ministers. An absolute majority of the respondents(91.3%) agreed withthe necessity of a music minister, and almost all of them(96.9%) supported the statement thatit is necessary for a church to have a full-time music minister, if budget permits. Most of therespondents(91.6%) agreed with the necessity of the system of the music minister as well. This researcher suggested in conclusion that universities of church music department and thePCK take an action for the system of the music minister to be established and implemented,that a provision of the music pastor also be inserted in the constitution of the denomination,and that a new curriculum be developed to train music ministers that local churches need.
