중국의 전국초기는 전쟁이 끊이지 않아 혼란하기 그지없는 시기였다. 묵자는 가난과 인권유린으로 도탄에 빠진 서민들을 구제하기 위하여 ‘겸애’와 ‘비공’의 평화론을 주창한다. 서민들을 죽음으로 몰아넣는 전쟁의 원인을 서로 사랑하지 않는 ‘별애’로 보고 이를 대체할 더불어 사랑하는 ‘겸애’를 주장한다. ‘겸애’는 온 인류의 생존을 보호하고 생활을 안정시키기 위한 적극적 평화의 개념이다. 묵자는 ‘겸애’의 사회를 이상으로 내세우는 한편 소극적 평화의 개념인 ‘비공(非攻)’을 주장한다. 침략전쟁은 의롭지도 이롭지도 않기에 반대한다는 것이다. 그러나 불의를 응징하는 주벌(誅伐)과 방어전쟁은 용인한다. 여기서 묵자는 천(天)의 종교적 권위를 빌어 정의의 기준을 세운다. 묵자는 또 그의 평화론을 실천하기 위하여 평화유지군이라 할 수 있는 ‘묵가집단’을 결성하여 방어전쟁에 나선다. 그는 방어무기를 개발하고 방어전술을 창안하여 무장평화론을 실천하는 군사전문가로서도 그의 능력을 발휘했다. 묵가의 겸애의 이상적인 평화론이나 침략전쟁을 부정하고 방어전쟁을 주장하는 ‘비공’의 현실적 평화론은 전쟁의 위기에 불안해 하고 있는 오늘의 인류에게 평화의 세계로 한걸음 더 나아가게 하는데 용기를 줄 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
As the growing of China, there were endless wars that disordered the country. The people of china got into a mess. There were many people suffered from poverty and abusing of human rights. In order to save the poor citizen from the misery, Mozi advocated slogans, 'jian-ai(兼愛)', 'fei-gong(非攻)'. He analyzed the cause of the war as the 'bie-ai(別愛)', which doesn't have any love among human beings. Therefore, he insisted the ‘bie-ai’ has to be converted by ‘jian-ai', which is the state that people love each others. Jian-ai' is an active concept of a peace that try topreserve human beings’ survival and to guarantee people’s stable living. At the same time he insisted the concept of Jin-ai as a main concept of the ideal society, he also insisted a passive concept of peace ‘fei-gong.’ Fei-gong opposes the attacking war, but it allows defending war and ‘ju-bul(誅罰)’, which is a justified war that punishes the evil. In order to actualize his theory of peace, he made the Mozi’s group, which is a similar concept of a peacekeeper of today, and started defending-war. He also was a professional for military strategy and made several defensing arms and defending theory, so that he tried to actualize his theory of armed peace. Mozi’s Jin-ai that insist the theory of ideal peace and fei-gong’s theory of realistic peace that deny attacking war and recommend defending war could give a courage and a vision for us who living in a society that filled with a threat of war.
