This study reviews the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in medical tourismin Asia and then analyzes the present condition and data about medical tourism in Korea. The results show that Thailand leads in the medical tourism market followed by Singapore,India and then Malaysia, Dubai, Philippines, Korea, China, Japan. Even though Korea hasdistinct strengths in the global medical market such as support system for medical care, JCIAccreditation, reasonable cost and excellent medical technology, Korea shows low occupancyrates in medical tourism in Asia. Therefore, Korea should raise medical tourismcompetitiveness. To ensure medical tourism sovereignty, it is necessary to induce investors toown hospitals in some areas, for example, in Incheon and Jeju province and also by allowingremote medical treatment.
