We see the two pagodas that look each other side by side, on the way to go to Yeonchonbong, i.e., the peak of Mountain Kyeryong that is located in Ch'ungch'ŏngnam - do. We call those two pagodas, the Brother-sister pagodas. Upon the pagodas, we find a story which has been handed down to us for a thousand years. The story tells us that a buddhist monk rescued the tiger endangered. Later on, the tiger came up with a girl from the town to express its gratitude to the monk. As the monk and the girl swore to be the brother and sister, they had been practicing buddhism together up to the end of their lives. The townsfolks built two pagodas that look each other side by side to commemorate the chaste relationship between the monk and the girl. Since this story has been handed down to us for a thousand years, we are sure that there is something in the story that gives us some psychological impact. In this paper, we have tried to explicate the meaning of the story of the Brother-sister pagodas, which gives us a time proved psychological impact, in light of Karl Jung's analytical psychology. This sort of the psychological analysis would help us to understand the meaning of the pagodas. In so doing, we analysed the story itself first in light of analytical psychology. Second, we tried to find out the archetype of the story that is embedded in the human psyche. Based upon these preliminary researches, we finally interpreted the time proved impact up on our psyche which makes us hold on to the story of the Brother-sister pagodas for a thousand years.
