이 연구는 현대 리더십 이론이 공통적으로 관심을 두었던 리더십의 세 차원과 핵심요인, 그리고 예수 그리스도의 리더십 원리에 입각하여 가톨릭 사제들의 리더십 역량을 강화하는 프로그램의 개발 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 현대 리더십 이론의 주된 관심은 다음의 세 가지로 요약된다. 첫째는 리더의 내면적·본성적 차원, 즉 리더의 자아정체성과 윤리적 모범, 추구하는 가치와 사명, 도덕적 권위와 동기유발 등에 대한 관심이다. 둘째는 리더와 팔로워의 관계성 차원에 대한 관심으로, 양쪽의 관계를 고차원적 욕구와 필요를 함께 나누는 협력적, 상호의존적 관계로 이해했다는 점이다. 셋째는 리더와 팔로워가 함께 만들어 가는 공동체의 중요성에 대한 관심이다. 이 세 차원과 핵심요인은 예수 그리스도의 삶과 리더십에서 완전한 형태로 발견된다. 현대 리더십 이론의 세 차원과 예수의 리더십 원리에 기초하여 이 연구는 사제 리더십 프로그램의 개발 방향을 사제와 리더의 정체성을 이해하는 1단계, 사제와 평신도의 협력 관계성을 이해하는 2단계, 사랑의 공동체를 만드는 3단계로 제시한다.
The purpose of this study is to suggest developmental directions of a program for developing the leadership ability of Catholic priests, based on three dimensions and core factors revealed in the modern literature on leadership and on the leadership principles exemplified by Jesus Christ. There are three main dimensions found in modern literature concerning leadership, summarized as follows: first, the nature of a leader, viz. the leader's self-identity and ethical modeling, the value and missions that he and his followers pursue, and his moral authority and motivations. Second, the collaborative and interdependent relationship between a leader and his followers, a relationship that respects mutual needs and wants and that encourages mutual cooperation. Third, the importance of a community that the leader and his followers strive to build together. Each of these three dimensions are found and fully exemplified in the life and leadership of Jesus Christ. Based on these three dimensions and core factors, and the principles of Jesus's leadership, this study suggests a three-step program for developing the requisite leadership qualities and ability in the life of a Catholic priest. Step I: establishing an understanding of the self-identity of a priest and a leader; Step II: promoting an understanding of the collaborative relationship between a priest and laypersons; and Step III: describing ways to build up a loving community.
